Nasarawa State Government has restated its commitment to opening up access roads to Doma Dam and other potential tourist sites in the state to attract investors in the sector.
The state Information Commissioner, Mr Dogo Shammah said this during the assessment tour by the ministry to the Doma Dam on Tuesday in Doma Local Government Council.
Shammah who was received by the Doma Local Government Council Chairman, Rabo Sani, said the ministry’s mission to Doma was part of its tour of tourist and cultural potential sites in the state.
According to him, Doma Dam is one among tourist sites that the state government has earmarked to develop in the nearest future to boost economic status of the state.
The commissioner explained that he would submit the reports of the tour to the government in good time to enable it take necessary step to develop the sector.
He expressed government’s readiness to intervene in the sector particularly opening up roads network for easy access to the tourist sites in the state.
“This government under the leadership of Gov. Abdullahi Sule, is a government that speaks and acts, in a shortest time, it will see how best to intervene in the sector particularly road network to all tourist sites.
“If this five kilometres road is constructed to create easy access to the Dam, I believe that investors as well as holiday revellers will come to patronised this place,’’ he said.
Speaking earlier, Mr Rabo Sani, Chairman, Doma Local Council, thanked the team for the visit, while appealing for the upgrade of facilities at the Dam so as to serve the people of Doma better.
On his part, Mr Amaks Dogara, Acting Plant Manager of Dam, said the water work was originally designed to operate 24 hours, to pump 9,000 cubic meters of water daily.
He noted that the 24 hour operation could not be achieved due to power challenge.
Dogara appealed to the state government to connect the Dam to the national grid and purchase bigger generator to address power challenge at the dam.
