The Lagos State Government has shutdown seven block moulding industries in Ikorodu axis of the state during an enforcement exercise.

The sealing of the industries was part of efforts towards bringing an end to building collapse being experienced in the State.

General Manager, Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, Dr Afolabi Tajudeen said the government had declared zero tolerance to building collapse in the state and that as part of the state government’s efforts towards securing the lives and properties of the citizens of the state, it was beaming its search light on materials used for construction.

The General Manager said any block industry that failed to meet the requirements and the laid down standard would be sealed.

He also hammered on the need to have their blocks stamped as a means of identification. On stacking of blocks, the he said blocks should be stacked 5 layers per column.

Tajudeen said the government was all out to make sure those involved in production and sale of building materials meet up the required standard.

In the course of the enforcement exercise, eight block moulding industries were visited while seven were sealed for not meeting the required standards and samples of the blocks were taken from each block moulding agency, tagged and moved to the agency laboratory for testing which would be done in the presence of the owners for them to witness the test being carried out to ascertain the strength of their blocks.

Also, the source of water used for mixing was also questioned and samples were collected to be tested at the Agency’s Laboratory.
