There are over 500,000 coronavirus cases in the world with the United States of America topping the chart.

Coronavirus cases worldwide crossed the  500,000 milestone  Friday, with  the United States of America  leading  with 85,612  cases, 1,307 deaths and 1,868 recoveries.

Statistics provided by worldometers, showed 536,434 coronavirus cases globally,  24,114 deaths and 124,395 recoveries.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) earlier in March declared the coronavirus a pandemic,  after renaming it as COVID-19.

The pandemic is now raging in 195 countries and  the ”Diamond Princess” cruise ship harboured in Yokohama, Japan.

China, where the virus originated has been overtaken by the U.S. China now tails with   81,340 cases.  It’s death toll of  3,295  lags behind Italy and Spain.

Over  40 African countries are battling with the coronavirus .

South Africa tops  with 927 cases, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Egypt  follows with 495 and Algeria, third  with 367.
Other African countries with over 100 confirmed cases are  Morocco with 275 infected persons, Tunisia 197, Burkina Faso 152, Ghana 132 and Senegal  105.
Nigeria has 65 confirmed  cases. Libya has only one.
Somalia and Guinea Bissau have two  cases each.
Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Kenya, Rwanda, Togo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mali, Liberia, Congo, and the Central Africa Republic  also have confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
