President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday authorised the release of 70,000 metric tonnes of rice from the nation’s strategic grain reserves.
The food will serve as part of palliatives for Nigerians living under the lockdown ordered to stem the spread of coronavirus.
Boss Mustapha, Secretary of Government of the Federation and chair of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 announced the release of the rice today.
He said 6,000 metric tonnes each will go to Lagos and Abuja.
The rest will go to other frontlines of the coronavirus war.
