The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Imo has under its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Scheme presented palliatives to the Nigerian Red Cross Motherless Babies’ Home in Owerri.

Mrs Favour Udonte, the Assistant Director, SAED, NYSC Imo, presented the items to the home on behalf of the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr John Eloeboh.

Udonte said that the palliatives were in fulfilment of the NYSC scheme’s humanitarian gesture geared toward assisting the Federal Government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic menace.

“The gesture is the first stage of the coronavirus package from the Imo NYSC Secretariat, as selected corps members in the SAED department have been directed to intensify action in the production of hand sanitizers and face masks.

“The preventive materials will be presented to the COVID-19 Task Force or Committee, to be handed over to the good people of the state,” she said.

Mrs Ogu Udoka, the Administrative Officer of the Nigerian Red Cross Motherless Babies’ Home, received the gifts and expressed profound gratitude to the NYSC management for the humanitarian gesture.

She said the presentation was coming at a time when the state was under coronavirus lockdown, making it difficult for people to reach their organisations.

Udoka pledged that the donated items would be used for the exact reason they were donated, as palliatives for feeding the children in the home during the lockdown in the state.

The items presented to the children in the home include cartons of noodles, rice and biscuits
