The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) office in Yobe state said it has sponsored 50 youths for training as auto mechanics at the Kaduna Peugeot Automobile Company.
Mr. Musa Damagum, the state SDG coordinator disclosed that the new development was under the SDG skills development programme in Damaturu.
“We have sent 50 youths for training as auto mechanics at the Kaduna Peugeot Automobile Company Nigeria. Our objective is actually to upgrade their skills in terms of the latest skills and knowledge in automobile maintenance.
“Because we noticed that most of the mechanics we have been lagging because of the new generation cars that are ICT driven. And most of the mechanics have probably learned from the cars that were produced in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
“So there is a need for them to come up to the speed, which will increase their productivity and marketability,” he said.
Musa noted that the gesture would complement the government’s efforts by reducing unemployment among youths in the state.
