Femi Kuti mourns music legend, Majek Fashek

The eldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and Nigerian musician, Femi Anikulapo Kuti has praised late reggae singer, Majek Fashek, for making great music.

The 57-year-old four-time Grammy nominee in a post on Instagram paid a tribute to Majek, whose death had earlier been confirmed by his manager, Omenka Uzoma.

“RIP Majek Fashek. You made great music and brought great vibes. You will always be loved my brother,” he wrote on Instagram.

Majekodunmi Fasheke, pronounced Ma-je-ko-dun-mi Ifa-kii-she-eke and known on stage as Majek Fashek was best known for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which housed his multi-award-winning record “Send Down the Rain”.

Majek in the early eighties went by the stage name Rajesh Kanal, and was part of a group Jastix with McRoy Gregg, and Drummer Black ‘Rice. The group was known as the in-house band on the show Music Panorama on NTA Benin, and toured with fellow reggae group The Mandators.
