All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has debunked reports the party picked Frank Ibezim as its consensus candidate for Imo North Senatorial by-election.

The party’s chairman, Prince Marcellius Nlemigbo said no such decision was taken by the nine-man panel, led by Secretary to the State Government, Cosmas Iwu.

He noted that the panel did not submit any report to Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The report said Ibezim scored four votes to beat 11 aspirants, who were at the Iwu-led panel set up to pick a consensus candidate.

But Nlemigbo said: “The party has not picked a consensus candidate, but thinking towards that. What is uppermost in our minds is for people to buy the form first.

“When we know all the aspirants, we will look at the possibility of knowing which one is best. I am yet to get the result of the panel’s report.”
