The Lagos State Government has charged its workers to possess emotional intelligence to be able to relate well with the public they constantly deal with.

Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Prince Anofiu Elegushi gave this charge at a three-day training retreat for workers in the ministry.

The theme of the training is “Leading with Emotional Intelligence for Organisational  Success.” It was held at the Pelican Hotels, Lekki, Lagos.

The training was to ensure that staff and workforce of the Ministry of Home Affairs are emotionally stable and well motivated to discharge their functions.

Eleguush said it was delightful that all the mid-management  and senior Management staff  of the ministry  after a very busy  period of Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr celebration gathered to strategize and reinvent ways on chatting  a better course to enhance optimal delivery of service and governance to the good people of Lagos State.

“The retreat would afford every members of staff irrespective of their position feel free to offer or voice out their minds on ways of improving the work ethics or mode of operations that could further enhance the progress of the ministry and Lagos State in general, which ordinarily wouldn’t have been possible if in the office”, Elegushi said.

He stated that the retreat could not have come at a better time as it would serve as an opportunity for every member of staff to relax and refill after a very busy period, adding that it would be an opportunity for members of staff to learn, unlearn and relearn.

Also, the Commissioner said the choice of the theme for the retreat could not have been ordinary but divine, but particularly apt for a moment like this in our country, Nigeria and Lagos in particular, if we are to bring sanity into our social and work place.

He said this was the first time the Ministry and indeed any Ministry in the state was holding a retreat that involved every member of staff on its nominal roll.

“I must therefore single out and salute the courage of the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adebunmi Adekanye, who has  brought her administrative dexterity and ingenuity to fore in the planning and execution of this  retreat”, Elegushi said.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs  Adebunmi Adekanye, said for a staff to deliver optimally, he/she has to be emotionally stable and well motivated.

‘”Let me express appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu-led administration for not leaving any stone unturned in ensuring job satisfaction by motivating its workforce and being sensitive to their emotional wellbeing as being witnessed today”, Adekanye said.

She said that with the calibre of the guest speaker and seasoned professionals billed to interact at the retreat,she has no doubt that all the participants are in for a very good time in the next few days.

The guest speaker, Mrs Titilayo Akisanya,  enjoined all, including the participants to ensure they implore emotional intelligence in their day to day dealings and interaction, a feat if well adhered to would make all hitherto eluded peace be speedily restored in the country and as well further instill undiluted love and unity that would catapult the great country to the  promised land.

The retreat is expected to close on Saturday, May 22nd after which a communique will be issued.
