Nigeria’s 100m medal hopeful, Divine Oduduru has been disqualified for the 100m heat for a false start at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

America’s Fred Kerley broke the rule for the first false start in the 100m race.

Oduduru had the second false start and had to be disqualified from the race. He has been Nigeria’s brightest hope to get to the medal zone at the Olympics because of his form.

Oduduru ran a personal best of 9.86 seconds in 2019 and 19.73 seconds in 2019 and then had 6.52 seconds in 60m dash.

Earlier on Saturday, another Nigerian medal hopeful, Blessing Okagbare was disqualified from the Olympics for suspected doping.

She could not run in the semi-finals of the 100m race.

This followed confirmation she had failed a drugs test earlier in July and has been provisionally suspended.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) provisionally suspended her with immediate effect after a sample collected from the sprinter tested positive for human growth hormone.

The AIU, which is an independent integrity body created by the World Athletics, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

The growth hormone is a non-specified substance on the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

A provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.

The AIU collected the sample from Okagbare during an out-of-competition test on July 19.

The WADA-accredited laboratory which analysed the sample notified the AIU of the adverse analytical finding at mid-day Central European Time on Friday.

AIU said the athlete was notified of the adverse analytical finding and of her provisional suspension Saturday morning in Tokyo.
