Bagudu declares public holiday to mark Islamic New Year

Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu has declared Monday, August 9, 2021, as a public holiday to mark Islamic New Year.

The day falls on Muharram 1, 1443AH, the beginning of a New Year for the Muslim Ummah.

Alhaji Sufyanu Garba-Bena, the Acting Head of Service, announced this in a statement in Birnin-Kebbi on Friday.

“The noble gesture by Bagudu is to enable the Muslim Ummah in the state to join other faithful across the world to mark the commencement of the Islamic New Year.

“This is in line with the tradition of Bagudu’s administration to make such declaration, to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic Calendar.”
