Active COVID-19 cases in Lagos topped 7,000 on Sunday as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced a slight decline in daily cases.

With 219 new cases on Sunday, Lagos now has an active COVID-19 caseload of 7,157.

The national active cases totalled 10,129.

In all the NCDC announced 471 cases for the country, raising the total confirmed infections to 178,096.

Out of the 12 states that reported new infections, Akwa Ibom logged the next highest figure to Lagos, with 102 cases.

It now has 854 active cases, the second highest in the country.

Ondo registered 37 cases, Oyo 33, Kwara 19 and Rivers 16.

Ekiti reported 15, Delta 14, Ogun 7, FCT 5, Niger 2.

Edo and Katsina states logged one case each.

According to NCDC, the number of the discharged increased to 165,763, with 291 recoveries recorded Sunday.

The health agency said two new deaths were recorded on Sunday.

This raised the total number of fatalities in the country to 2,187.
