COVID-19 cases plummeted in Nigeria on Thursday with 674 fresh cases reported across 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Eight new deaths were however recorded to take the overall deaths arising from the deadly virus to 2,244 in the third wave of the pandemic.

Nigeria posted 1,149 cases on Wednesday, the highest in a single day in 2021, but there was a sharp fall on Thursday with figures dropping sharply to 674.

This takes the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 185,267 , with 167,923 survivors discharged so far according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

In Thursday infections, Lagos logged 355 new cases, a drop from the 680 cases it posted the previous day, while Rivers which came second reported 87 cases, a fall from the 157 cases it raked in on Wednesday.
