A 45-year-old shoe seller at the Balogun market, Lagos Island, Peter Amadin has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N800,000 from another trader, Julius Uzowuru under false pretence.

The police at the Kester police post led by Inspector Enicha Emmanuel arrested the defendant following a complaint by Uzowuru that the defendant collected the N800,000 from him to supply original children’s wears, but that Amadin instead supplied him fake children’s wears that were not marketable.

Amadin was docked at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

Police Counsel, Ishola Samuel informed the Court that the defendant committed the offence in February, 2020 at the Oluwole Urban Mall, Lagos Island.

Samuel told the Court that the complainant reported that the defendant approached him that he had original children’s wears valued N800,000 to supply him and that because they were both traders, he trusted him and gave him the N800,000 to supply the wears, adding that he was shocked that Amadin supplied him fake children’s wears.

Samuel said that the offences Amadin committed were punishable under sections 411, 314 (1) (2) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Amadin pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate O.S Abioye granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Abioye adjourned the case till 4 October, 2021 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre till he perfected the bail conditions.
