Kaduna evacuates indigenes trapped in UNIJOS

Kaduna State government has said it evacuated all its indigenes studying at the University of Jos and other tertiary institutions in the state.

This follows the report of other states like Ogun, Abia, Kogi, Benue among others reporting that they have evacuated their indigenes from the state.

Students in UNIJOS raised the alarm last week over incessant killing and attacks on them on campus.

Beyond the campus, Plateau State has been rocked by the crisis. Attack on communities, killings have been the order of the day in the state.

On Wednesday, reports emerged that scores of people were killed in Yelwan Zangam community in Jos North Local Government of the State.

As a result of these wanton killings, several states have been going to Plateau to rescue its indigenes.

The Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, Malam Hassan Rilwan, who announced evacuation of Kaduna indigenes said the rescue was concluded last weekend.

He said on Thursday that the rescue followed the state government’s directives that all students of Kaduna State trapped should be evacuated in view of the security situation in the state(Plateau).

According to him, 87 students were evacuated on Friday, August 20, 2021, by security agencies under the supervision of the board, adding that the students have since been reunited with their families.
