Active COVID-19 cases in Nigeria jumped to 17,791 on Thursday, after 835 new cases were reported.

Rivers upstaged Lagos in the latest grim statistics, logging 263 cases.

Lagos recorded 217 cases.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said 19 states and the FCT accounted for the latest infections.

Cumulative cases since last year have risen to 189,715.

Death toll jumped to 2,298, including 10 deaths reported on Thursday.

The discharged are 169, 626, including the 244 that just recovered.
