Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has reversed its decision that that Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has made 100 appearances for the national team.

This came after FIFA disputed the claims.

The NFF had erroneously added two matches played by Musa, which were not officially recognized by FIFA.

Despite the error, NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, had after the Cape Verde game gifted Musa N10m for attaining the “feat.”

He also promised the same amount to any other player who reached the 100-cap milestone in the future.

Pinnick also insisted on a radio show that the federation had their own data which they relied on.

“Ahmed Musa has been consistent, he is somebody whose passion, leadership, sagacity, and dexterity are second to none, he loves the country and believes in the NFF. “So, this is just a token reward for his 100th cap, we will also give him during the next game.

“We have our own data and that is what we are using, even if it is 50 caps for the national team in a country where you have an abundance of talents,” Pinnick said.

The NFF however took a U-turn on Wednesday evening.

The NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, said:

“We defer to FIFA in this regard, so Ahmed Musa has 98 caps. If he features, as expected, in the home-and-away matches against the Central African Republic in October, he will clock the tally of 100 and the celebrations will follow in full flow.”
