Ibrahim Aliyu emerges new Emir of Gaya

Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya has emerged as the new Emir of Gaya, succeeding Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir, who died on Wednesday.

Aliyu emerged after some misunderstanding, disagreements between Usman Alhaji, the State Secretary to the Kano State government and some other dignitaries.

However, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje settled the dispute amicably after which Usman Alhaji announced Ibrahim Aliyu as the new emir.

The new emir succeeds his father, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir, who died at the age of 91.

Prior to his appointment as Emir, Alhaji Ibrahim, the eldest son of the former emir, was the Ciroman Gaya.

The Secretary to the State Government who announced the appointment on behalf of the governor, said, “Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, by the power conferred on him by the Kano Emirate law 2020 as amended has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya as the new emir of Gaya.

“The appointment followed the recommendation by the Gaya Emirate kingmakers after the presentation of three candidates to the governor who appointed Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya as the new Emir.”

The kingmakers include, Alhaji Usman Alhaji (leader of the king makers), Wada Aliyu (Madakin Gaya), AIG Alhaji Bashir Albasu (Makaman Gaya), Alhaji Jafar Usman (Turakin Gaya).

Gaya emirate was amongst the four emirates created by Governor Ganduje in 2019.

The three other emirates in the state are Bichi, Rano, and Karaye.
