Gunmen riding on 20 motorcycles stormed Kagara town in Niger state Tuesday, going straight to the palace.
Their mission ostensibly was to kidnap the Emir, Alhaji Ahmed Attahiru (II) from the palace.
But they missed him as he has been away for almost two weeks.
Multiple reports said the gunmen stormed the palace around 6:00 p.m., shooting sporadically and causing residents to scamper for safety.
The terrorists also attacked the the Kagara market.
“People were running helter skelter for safety. We cried to the security agencies and they arrived to help us”, a resident of the town told Daily Post.
“Many have left their homes and taken refuge in the bush.
“The situation is bad now because of the network that has been jammed. We don’t know what is happening,” the resident stated.
