AMVCA awards to hold November 28, organizers announce

Organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have announced that the 2021 edition of the award would hold Sunday, November 28, in Lagos.

Mrs Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of AMAA and president of Association of Movie Producers (AMP) made the announcement on Wednesday at a media launch/press conference held at CCX Lounge, Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island, Lagos.

While speaking, Mrs. Peace noted that the prestigious AMAA award has been ongoing for 17 years noting that the award is positioned to keep raising the standards for filmmaking in Nigeria and Africa.

She revealed that currently, the jury are still deliberating on movies submitted for the awards and later in October, movies that make it to the nominations list would be made public.

The AMMAA President revealed that for this year’s award, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, a former commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Lagos State heads the jury for the award. Other members on the jury are Nigerian and foreign movie curators.

During the press conference, Mrs. Peace also spoke about the 100 film project AMAA is currently working on.

Mr Abiola Durodola, a senior project manager overseeing the 100 film project noted that through it, AMAA aims to train, mentor, and breed the next generation of moviemakers in Africa.

He noted that AMAA has organized training for youths across Africa and most recently, they had training in Port Harcourt, Nigeria for youth interested in film making with previous editions in Lagos, South Africa, Mali among others.
