The Nigerian government has declared Friday, October 1, a public holiday to celebrate the 61st Independence anniversary of the nation.

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola made the declaration in a statement  on Wednesday in Abuja.

He assured Nigerians that the government would tackle rising insecurity in the country.

According to him, Nigerians’ warmth, welcoming spirit and love, as well as the abundant wealth inherent in the nation’s human capital and the richness of the land, made Nigeria unarguably the leading black nation in the world and Africa’s pride and beacon of hope, “if we can rally ourselves together to harness our potentials.”

“We are indeed the leading black nation in the entire world and no doubt Africa’s pride and beacon of hope,” Aregbesola said.
