The Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged Nigerians to take responsibility for restoring the country to its former glory.
Oborevwori made the call in his Independence Day message by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Dennis Otu, on Friday in Asaba.
The speaker who lamented that “all is not well with the country at the moment”, urged Nigerians to get the country back on track of progress and development.
While commending Nigerians for sustaining the unity of the country, he called for a united front in the task of rebuilding the nation.
Oborevwori, who felicitated Nigerians on its 61st independence day celebration, urged them to use the occasion to spread love and preach the message of peaceful coexistence.
He noted that in spite of its numerous challenges, the nation remained on the right path.
The speaker also implored Nigerians not to despair, saying that, “there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
“I know that there are those that may say we have very little or nothing to celebrate, but I will sincerely tell them that the unity of the country up till now, is worth celebrating.
“That is why I am urging all citizens of this great nation to take it upon themselves to get our nation to work optimally, so that the founding fathers of our country will be proud of us.
“At 61 years, Nigeria has faced many challenges, but we have overcome those challenges and made progress in multiple spheres of human endeavor,” he said.
Oborevwori noted that there were a lot more to be done to achieve the dreams of all Nigerians.
“Let us collectively work for the unity of our great country as we do not have another country to call our own.
“Let us be dedicated to the enormous task of getting our country out of the woods and make this wonderful nation work again.
“We have to see to the peaceful coexistence of our people,” he added.
