Bus driver in Rivers kills passenger Ohawen over N50

A man simply identified as Tedus Ohawen from Imo State was killed by a hit-and-run commercial bus driver on Independence Day at Wobo Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The tragic incident followed an argument between the passenger and bus conductor over the inability to pay N50 or $0.1 cent transport fare.

Narrating the incident, the Chief Security Officer of Diobu Vigilante Mile 3 unit, Godstime Ihunwo, the passenger, Mr Ohawen was arguing with the conductor when he was pushed out of the vehicle by the bus conductor and ran over by the driver who fled the scene.

However, both the fleeing driver and his bus conductor were apprehended at Mile 1 and presently detained at Mile 3 Police Station.

The youth president of Rumuelechi Community, Okpara Christian, confirmed the incident and said that the police had been able to calm down the situation as members of the public were almost becoming restive over the tragic incident.

Another eyewitness claimed that the argument was a result of N50 transport fare.

As at the time of filing this report, the Police Command’s spokesman, SP Nnamdi Omoni was yet to confirm the incident.
