Troops of the Nigerian Army involved in Exercise Golden Dawn have shot three gunmenn dead as they were attacking policement at a checkpoint in Anambra State.

Brig Gen., Director Army Public Relations the attack was foiled by troops of Sector 5 of exercise Golden Dawn deployed in the state.

Gen. Onyema noted that the troops engaged and overwhelmed the gunmen with superior firepower forcing them to flee.

According to him, the troops pursued the gunmen who were in two vehicles (hilux and hummer bus) and suceeded in killing three of them while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The Army spokesperson said further that troops recovered one vehicle and two motorcycles as they conducted further exploitation of the area to arrest fleeing terrorists.

One policeman was killed during the operation.

“The Chief of Army Staff Commended the troops for the feat and urged them to sustain the momentum against all criminal elements operating in the region,” the statement said.

The COAS also sympathized with the family of the murdered police officer and prayed for the repose of his soul.
