Late Sir. Victor Uwaifo: Edo State Government announces programme for his funeral ceremony

Edo State Government has announced a programme of activities for the burial for the late music legend, Sir Victor Uwaifo.

The Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Mr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, made the announcement at a press briefing on Monday in Benin.

He disclosed that plans were underway to immortalise the late world-acclaimed musician, adding that when legends like Uwaifo passes on, it’s always good to have something to immortalize them.

He disclosed that the State Government was joining the family of the deceased to give him a befitting burial, noting that he was a man that has put Nigeria on the world map.

“In the next couple of days, you will know what the State Government is doing in that regard. I am sure it will be unveiled in the next couple of days during the funeral,” he said.

According to Iyoha, the State-funeral for Uwaifo would commence on Thursday, October 14 with tributes, vigil mass/service of songs at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin.

A lying-in-state will follow at the Ogbe Hard court of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, on October 15 at 1 pm, to be followed by interment.

Social activities and thanksgiving service will be held on October 16 and 17, at Garrick Memorial Primary School play ground, Ekenwan Road, and Holy Cross Catholic Cathedral, Mission Road, Benin City, respectively.

The spokesman for the Uwaifo family, Mr. Chris Osaretin, commended the State Government for the support.
