Nurudeen Kasim, a 19-year-old boy would be flogged 12 strokes of cane for stealing two iPhones, a Kaduna Chief Magistrate Court has ruled on Friday.
Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Chidi Leo told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 6 in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna.
Leo said the convict broke into the apartment of Hassan Liman, the complainant and stole two iPhones worth N350,000.
He noted that the offence contravened the provisions of section 271 and 207 of the Kaduna State Pedal Code Law, 2017.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel tempered justice with mercy for the minor after pleading guilty to the crime.
According to the judge, the young boy saved the court from a prolonged trial prompting the light punishment. The judge, however, said he hopes it would serve as a deterrent to others, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He also warned the teenager to shun crime.
