Barcelona defeated Dynamo Kyiv at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night to win their first Champions League match of the season.
It’s the third victory in a row but it was almost a boring 90 minutes.
The Spanish club had suffered successive 3-0 defeats to Bayern Munich and Benfica in Group E and were in desperate need of a result against the Ukrainian outfit at least to get a fighting chance of reaching the knockout stages.
They managed to grab all three points with a narrow win against a lifeless Dynamo side.
Sergino Dest nearly gave Barcelona the lead after just 90 seconds when Jordi Alba picked him out from a deep cross, but the USA international couldn’t keep his header down.
Luuk de Jong had a huge chance to put Barça in front when he met Memphis Depay’s free-kick, but his effort went off target.
Barcelona broke the deadlock through a Gerard Pique effort in the 36th minute as he lashed in a volley after a fine looping ball from Alba.
Koeman brought in Philippe Coutinho and Ansu Fati at half-time but none could find the back of the net until full time.
However, Barcelona remain number three in Group E with high hopes of reaching knockout if they win their remaining games.
