Ruler of Borgu kingdom Mahmud Ahmed regains freedom

Niger monarch, Dodo of Wawa Gbere, Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu who was abducted in September has been released by his abductors.

Aliyu, the ruler of the Borgu Kingdom was released around 7:30 pm on Tuesday after the payment of N10m ransom, Daily Trust reports.

He spent 45 days in captivity before his release.

The monarch’s release was confirmed by Wazirin Wawa, Alhaji Ja’afar Ibrahim Bio who failed to confirm the amount paid to secure his release.

Aliyu was received by his family members in his palace.

PM News reported how the monarch was abducted around 10 p.m on Saturday, September 4 after gunmen stormed the community, shot sporadically and went straight to his place for him.

They stormed the community in their numbers on motorcycles and picked the monarch in front of his wife.

Niger State Police Command has not spoken on the release of the monarch.
