Anambra governor, Obiano signs anti-grazing bill to law

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has signed the bill to abolish nomadic cattle rearing and other livestock grazing in the state.

The bill also called for the establishment of cattle and other livestock ranches.

The governor signed the bill into law in a brief ceremony, which was performed at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, on Friday.

Obiano after signing the bill to law lauded the state House of Assembly for speedily passing the bill.

He said the new law would hopefully enable the entrenchment of peace in the state.

Obiano said that his administration had previously been doing its best to manage crises arising from the menace of cattle herders for a very long time.

He said their efforts, however, were short-term because there was no law. With the new law, he said law enforcement has been directed to enforce compliance.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uju Nworgu; Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu; Commissioner for Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng; Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Nnamdi Onukwuba.
