Following a street protest by pensioners in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Osun state government has appealed to retirees to be patient.
Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation Mrs. Funke Egbemode made the appeal in a statement..
According to the statement, rather than take to the streets, the pensioners are advised to be patient with the government.
Egbemode said since it was inaugurated in 2018, the government had never defaulted in payment of pensions and gratuities, including those of contributory pensioners.
She said government is also gradually clearing the backlog it inherited.
“From 2018 to date, we have spent about N40billion to cater for the pensioners.
“This is a demonstration of love and commitment to our senior citizens and we won’t relent.
“Rather than resort to civil unrest, we appeal to our senior citizens to show understanding and be a little more patient with the government,” she added.
