As the dry season approaches, the Ogun State House of Assembly has demanded immediate implementation of the State Animal Grazing Regulation and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law, 2020, passed by it and recently assented to by Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

The lawmakers said implementation of the law would prevent the recurrence of attacks on human and farmlands, which often happened in the dry season, especially in the Yewa axis of the State.

To this end, the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo has directed the Special Adviser on Security to the State Governor, AIG Olusola Subaru (Rtd) and other concerned government officials to immediately set machinery in motion towards liaising with all security formations in the State for the strict compliance with all sections of the Law.

Oluomo made the request while responding to the submission of a member representing Yewa North I State Constituency, Adegoke Adeyanju during plenary on Thursday on the need for government and necessary stakeholders to prepare towards curbing the incessant clashes between herders and farmers that often happened during the dry season.

Adeyanju said as the dry season approaches, the incessant clashes between the herders and farmers can be prevented through the immediate implementation of the law.

He added that implementation of the law would save farmers from losing their farmlands to nomadic pastoralists, who always engaged in illegal open grazing on farmlands in his constituency.

Also, Speaker Oluomo has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for ensuring that the failed portions of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway are being rehabilitated through the application of palliatives.

He said that the State Government remained sensitive to the yearnings and aspirations of the people, thus the need to ease the challenges being encountered by motorists plying the axis.

He equally directed the Assembly’s Committee on Works and Infrastructure to liaise with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure on the need to re-construct the bridge linking Isale Oja Kuto-Isabo/Ijaye in Abeokuta South II State Constituency, which had earlier been assessed for construction work as reported by a member representing Abeokuta South 2, State Constituency, Hon. Ademuyiwa Adeyemi.

In another development, members of staff of the Ogun State House of Assembly have been tasked to rededicate themselves to the ideals of public service through quality service delivery, loyalty, dedication and utmost commitment to efficiency for the success of the State Legislature.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oluomo gave the charge during a send-forth ceremony organized for the retirees of the Assembly held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to the Speaker, a virile legislature, like the ninth Assembly required the service of effective and efficient manpower to enact all-encompassing legislations that could stand the test of time and thus aid the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

Acknowledging the noble achievements of the retirees, the Speaker encouraged the serving officials to utilise their available income productively towards ensuring their self- sustainability at retirement.
