General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan: head of Sudan’s military junta

Sudan military leaders have sacked six ambassadors, including the country’s envoy to the European Union.

The Sudanese ambassadors to the European Union, United States, China, France, Qatar and the head of the Sudanese mission in Geneva were sacked according to Al-Arabiya on Wednesday.

The sacking followed the condemnation of the military coup in the country by the envoys.

In a joint statement, the Sudanese ambassadors to Belgium, France, Switzerland, China, South Africa, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates urged for the return of democracy.

“We reiterate our unwavering commitment and full support to the struggle of the Sudanese people for freedom, peace and justice and the transition process to establish a permanent democratic system in the country”.

On Monday, in a coup d’etat, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan dissolved the transitional government and declared a state of emergency.

This has triggered a massive civil disobedience and work boycott in the country.

Meanwhile, foreign diplomats have met with the ousted Sudanese Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdok in the capital Khartoum, the UN mission in the country has confirmed.

An EU delegation as well as the embassies of Germany, France, Britain, the U.S. and other countries met Hamdok at his residence, they said jointly on Twitter Thursday.

“Pleased to find him in good health. We continue to call for full restoration of his liberty,’’ the statement tweeted by the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission (UNITAMS) read.
