The Police authorities kept a disquieting quiet Friday night after 50 of their men stormed the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court.

After initial confusion about the identity of the armed men, it was later reported that they were policemen, acting on the intelligence that ‘some illegal activities’ were going on there.

Asked a concerned Nigerian: “What illegal activities could be going on in the home of a Supreme Court justice to warrant a police raid?”

Up till midnight Friday, the police were yet to explain the reason for their action.

It is also not clear what the policemen took away after a search of the house.

One of the concerned Nigerians was Governor Nyesom Wike, who raced to the house to find out what happened.

Justice Mary Odili, 69, is the wife of a two-term Governor of Rivers State Dr Peter Odili.

She was appointed justice of the Supreme court in 2011 by President Goodluck Jonathan.

She is said to be the most senior justice after the incumbent chief justice.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has denied that it’s operatives were behind the raid on Justice Odili’s Residence.

The EFCC according to its spokesman Wilson Uwujaren in a statement Friday, said it was mere media speculations and urged the public to disregard the report.

“The attention of EFCC has been drawn to claims in a section of the media that its operatives stormed Justice Odili’s home purportedly to execute a search in Maitama, Abuja.

“The commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.

“If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC.

“The commission enjoins the public to discountenance the report, he said.

In October 2016, the DSS raided the homes of two Supreme court justices and some high court judges, claiming to be looking for evidence of corruptionn.
