Manchester United speak on Varane injury

Raphael Varane out of action for one month

Manchester United said defender Raphael Varane will be out of action for four weeks, as a result of the injury suffered during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League.

In an update by the Club Wednesday night the France international was said to have sustained a hamstring injury.

The centre-back was withdrawn during the first half of the game in Bergamo, with Atalanta leading 1-0.

He was replaced by Mason Greenwood and the Reds went on to secure a valuable point against the Serie A side courtesy of a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo.

It means the injury will keep the former Madrid player out of United’s derby on Saturday, against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Of course, he will be unavailable for France duty during the two-week international break.

When the Premier League campaign resumed, Varane will also be missing in United lineup against away at Watford.

He is also being counted out of the Champions League match against Villarreal and the EPL game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“We’d like to wish Raphael all the best as he works on his recovery”, Manchester United said.

Varane just returned to United action after a groin injury.
