INEC chairman Mahmood signs Anambra the peace accord as the candidates wait

All the 17 Candidates in the 6 November Anambra governorship election on Thursday signed a peace accord in Awka, the state capital.

Former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, who chairs the National Peace Committee and Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, were at the signing ceremony.

The election which still has rings of uncertainty following the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, will be the first election where INEC will use Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

It comprises the verification and authentication of voters using the BVAS for cross-checking the voters’ names in the Register of Voters as well as authenticating the voters using their fingerprints or facials.
