Bomb threats at Yale University trigger evacuations

Yale University in Connecticut, United States received several bomb threats on Friday afternoon, triggering mass evacuation.

Yale Daily News said the bomb threats were directed at ‘multiple buildings’ in the Old Campus vicinity as well as the campus in New Haven, Connecticut.

A caller at 1.51pm local time said that ’40 bombs’ were hidden around the campus.

An alert on the bomb threat was sent at 2.35pm local time and instructed students to avoid the suspected areas.

A total of eight buildings were under evacuation orders.

Yale Daily News reported that multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene.

These are the Yale, New Haven and Connecticut State police departments and the Connecticut office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The University Theater, Jonathan Edwards College, the Yale Art Gallery, Vanderbilt Hall, Bingham Hall, Welch Hall, Grace Hopper College have all been evacuated, per a 2:35 p.m. Yale Alert, said the campus paper.

Yale later officially added Saybrook and Branford Colleges and Bass Library to the list of evacuations.

The News has also confirmed the entirety of Cross Campus was evacuated as well.
