Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has offered automatic employment to all exceptional students of the state-owned Edo State University, Uzairue.

The Governor announced the offer on Thursday, during the 3rd Convocation ceremony of the University.

According to him, “Those exceptional students who have obtained one university prize or the other should note that you have automatic employment into Edo civil service.

“If you don’t want to proceed with your Master’s programme immediately, but want to work, just write to me and indicate that you are a prize winner. You will only complete the formalities to get employed.

“I want to appreciate the management of the institution for keeping to the vision of our government to build a world-class university in Edo. I urge you to keep to the good works of bringing more Laurels to the university and our state.”

The Governor while expressing satisfaction with the performance of the management and students of the University, promised to fulfill all obligations to the institution.

He said: “I am impressed with what you are doing in this school; that gives us the impetus to continue to do more for the institution. We believe that if we endow the university with world-class infrastructure and facilities, it will be able to run itself on a sustained basis.

“I want to appreciate the management of the institution for keeping to the vision of our government to build a world-class university in Edo. I urge you to keep to the good works of bringing more Laurels to the university and our state”, he stated.

“As a government, we will fulfill our obligations to the university. I have instructed the contractors to resume work on the teaching hospital. I have also assured the Vice-Chancellor that the staff housing unit must be completed before the end of this year.

“We will continue to evaluate our financial situation as a government to make sure that we build a world-class university that can deliver quality education to, not only Edo citizens, but Nigerians as a whole.”

Obaseki urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the University and to display the knowledge that they have acquired over the years, to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the country.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, noted that the goal of the school was to ensure that they produced students graduate with different entrepreneurial skills that could make them employers if labour.

He also expressed gratitude for the continued support given to the school by the State government.

The VC said: “We are very grateful for the immense support from the state government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“For the graduands, I urge you to continue to be good ambassadors of Edo State University, Uzairue. This is because you will go into the labour market to serve the nation in the field of your academic discipline in which this university has prepared you for.

“The University has maintained her policy of an award of N5 million to the graduating student who has the best entrepreneurial business ideas.

“The goal of the institution is that our students will graduate with different entrepreneurial skills that will make them, not only entrepreneurs or self-employed but employers of labour.”

The Chancellor of the University, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola, said the university made him proud with its successful Law accreditation with with the NUC.

“My greatest joy today is that I have seen a sense of commitment on the part of the government of Edo State, prudence on the part of management, sense of innovation on the part of the lecturers and preparedness to learn on the part of the students.”

A total of 142 undergraduate and postgraduate students found worthy in character and learning were awarded degrees of the University in various disciplines.
