Danish Queen Margrethe begins four-day visit to Germany

Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II and her son, Crown Prince Frederik, have begun a four-day state visit to Germany.

They will meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife at Bellevue Palace on Wednesday after their arrival.

The queen will then visit the Charite hospital in Berlin and will also meet Chancellor Angela Merkel for a late breakfast.

A visit to the new Humboldt Forum and the Brandenburg Gate were scheduled for the afternoon.

The Danish queen, who is 81, and her 53-year-old son will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Berlin’s memorial to the victims of war and tyranny.

The visit to Berlin will last until Friday.

Queen Margrethe will then travel alone to Munich.
