Ganduje inaugurates governing councils of state varsities

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has inaugurated the Governing councils of the Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil, and the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSUK).

He performed the inauguration on Wednesday during the state Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Kano.

The governor charged the two councils to live above board and provide an enabling environment for academic pursuits in their respective institutions.

“You are appointed based on your proven track records, merit, capacity, capability, experience and education. We are sure that you will provide an enabling environment for academic pursuits in these institutions of higher learning,” he said.

In addition, he urged them to ensure that peace prevailed in their respective institutions, saying, “You should do more to maintain that in our citadel of learning.”

Earlier, the state government reappointed Alhaji Aliko Dangote as Chancellor, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, (KUST), with Prof. Zubairu Iliyasu, as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council.

Others include Prof. Hamman Mahmoud, Prof. Garba Kawu, Dr Clement Igbaji, Alhaji Abubakar Jatau, A’isha Jafaru and Yahanasu Buba.

The Yusuf Maitama Sule University, (YUMSUK), Kano, has Eze Udo I of Mgboko Ngwa Amaise Aut, as the Chancellor and Prof J.D. Amin, as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council.

Other members of the YUMSUK council were, Prof Muhammad Yakasai, Dr Rabi Jibrilla, Tajuddeen Dantata, Umar Abdullahi-Karaye and Dr Binta Jibir-Wudil.

Chairmen of the two governing councils, who responded on behalf of other members, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them for the new assignment. They assured that they would work tirelessly to prove their mettle by taking the two universities to greater heights in academic excellence, productivity and moral standards.
