Saraki: Soldiers killed by ISWAP were heroes

Saraki based his decision on conflicting court orders that he noted have put the validity of the convention in jeopardy which he said may also likely impinged on the outcome of the event. He added that going ahead with the convention will also fuel the crisis within the party.

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has described as heroes, the soldiers killed on Saturday by ISWAP terrorists during an encounter in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Saraki in a statement said the slain soldiers sacrificed their lives for Nigeria.

The former Kwara governor commiserated with the Nigerian Army, and the families of Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkusu and the other soldiers killed.

“My heartfelt prayers are with the families of Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkusu and the three soldiers of the Nigerian Army’s 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, who were killed by terrorists while on their way to reinforce our troops at Bungulwa village, near Askira Uba.

“As we mourn the passing of these heroes who selflessly and courageously gave their lives serving our country, I pray that Almighty God will protect the families left behind and continue to strengthen our brave men and women on the frontlines.”

The four soldiers killed by ISWAP along with Brigadier Dzarma Zirkusu were killed on their way to provide reinforcement in a counter-offensive against the terrorists.
