NSCDC steps up security of rail lines in Niger

The Niger State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has stepped up security measures along railway lines to prevent vandalism.

Mr Haruna Zurmi, NSCDC Commandant made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.

Haruna, said that the security measure in place will prevent any person or group of people from vandalising the rail lines.

” We have also reached out to community and religious leaders along rail lines to expose any person found tampering or moving with vandalized rail line parts or of any critical asset and infrastructure.

” We have made available telephone numbers to community leaders to report any person with questionable character for prompt security actions.

He explained that the command, in its resolve to ensure that government infrastructure and property in the state are protected, came up with strategies aimed at tracking down vandals across the 25 local government areas.

” The security method already in place would make it difficult for vandals to operate in our area of jurisdiction because we involve everybody towards safeguarding government facilities.

” We have been making efforts to ensure that government infrastructure in Niger state are protected and we will do everything humanly possible to do what is required of us to achieve the set objectives.

“We have introduced foot patrol along rail lines to ensure safety of the lines”, he said.
