One Oluchi Chinedu, a mother, has been arrested by the police in Rivers for allegedly pouring hot water on her 9-year-old maid for allegedly beating one of her children.

Our correspondent reports that the incident happened at Paradise Avenue, off St. Michael Street, Iwofe in Port Harcourt.

In a statement, spokesperson of Rivers command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said the woman is currently being investigated at the Criminal Investigation Department.

Omoni assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and that justice shall be served.

The suspect, Oluchi Chinedu, was arrested after her neighbours at Paradise Avenue intervened in the matter.

Chairman of the Estate, Sam Ikem, in a chat with journalists described the incident as attempted murder.

He said the woman, after bathing the girl with hot water, physically assaulted her for more than four days.

Ikem who called on the relevant authorities to adequately investigate the matter and ensure that the accused faces the wrath of the law, also accused her of previously using hot knife on the little girl.
