Police in Niger state have rescued eight of the people kidnapped on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway on Sunday 21 November.

The kidnappers also killed an APC chieftain Sagir Hamida at the same spot.

The victims were rescued on Wednesday evening in Sarkin Pawa Forest of Munya Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Minna on Thursday night.

Abiodun said on Nov.24 at about 1700 hours, based on credible intelligence, Police operatives attached to Sarkin-Pawa division while on patrol and clearance operation along Lukuma/Shafe Road of Sarkin Pawa rescued the victims.

The victims were kidnapped from Mangoro forest. They were abandoned by suspected kidnapppers as a result of hot chase and sustained operational patrol along the axis of Mangoro-Lukuma-Shafe area of Sarkin Pawa area.

Seven of the victims are from Kankia LGA of Katsina State. The eighth victim is from Ikara LGA, in Kaduna State.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims took off from Kankia town, Katsina State on Nov. 21 heading to Abuja.

They were among the victims of kidnapping incident on same date along Kaduna-Abuja express way.

In the course of debriefing the victims, it was discovered that they were taken to Kofa forest of Chikun LGA of Kaduna state.

The spokesman said effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.

” We appeal to rural dwellers to assist the ongoing fight against criminal elements with require intelligence information that could aid in apprehending miscreants”,he said.
