Hundreds of fans Sunday night forced their way through the security gates to watch Nigerian singer Wizkid at one of three sold-out concerts at O2 Arena.
The O2 said they are reviewing their security procedures and advised fans coming to shows this week to arrive early for security checks, Daily Mail reports.
People who go to watch gigs at the former Millennium Dome in North Greenwich are required to show a Covid pass to enter.
The chaotic scenes come three weeks after the deadly crush at rapper Travis Scott’s two-day Astroworld festival in Texas.
Venue officials said ‘a number of fans’ entered the venue, regardless of whether or not they had a ticket for Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ tour.
Footage posted to social media showed dozens of young people pushing through the lines and storming into the O2 as security guards attempted to push back.
The crowds then knocked over the airport-type security scanners as they barged into the venue. In another video, a woman appears to push a venue security worker after he grabs another member of the public.
An O2 Arena spokesman said: ‘This evening, a breach of the security cordon on the arena entrance occurred and as a result, a number of fans in the queue were able to enter the venue.
‘The situation was quickly contained by staff and the incident resolved.
‘The venue is reviewing security procedures for the remaining shows this week and advises fans to arrive early for security checks tomorrow night and again on Wednesday.’
Social media users called the scenes ‘sickening’ and ‘disgraceful’, while another added: ‘After Astroworld? People don’t have shame or value their safety.’
It comes three weeks after 10 people were killed, and dozens more injured, on the first night of Scott’s two-day Astroworld festival in Houston.
