Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has condemned the attack on Jos custodial centre by unknown gunmen on Sunday.

The Governor spoke in a statement on Monday by Dr. Makut Macham, Director of Press and Public Affairs.

Lalong praised the gallant officers and men of the Jos Custodial Centre who resisted the attack.

The governor also praised the quick reaction of other security agencies including the Police, Operation Safe Haven, Department of States Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Operation Rainbow who responded swiftly to the situation and took charge of the general area leading to the entrapment of the assailants as well as the arrest of fleeing inmates.

Lalong described the attempt as one too many in the nations correctional system. The governor called for  a holistic approach to be taken to bring jail break attacks to an end in the country and ensure safety of inmates, correctional officers, and the larger society from criminals.

He directed that security around the correctional facility be boosted and promised that Plateau State would work with the Federal Government in every way possible to ensure that all Correctional Facilities in the State are protected from such attacks.

Lalong called for calm among Jos residents and asked them to go about their daily activity with utmost vigilance and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

He said government would keep making Plateau uninhabitable for criminals by sustaining proactive measures.
