Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB was conspicuously absent in as the resumption of his trial for treasonable felony was moved from from 19 to 18 January 2022 by Justice Binta Nyako on Thursday.

Contrary to earlier speculations, the issue of bail or challenge of the charges filed against Kanu did not come up during Thursday’s hearing.

It was gathered that after after a perusal of the diary of the court, Justice Nyako agreed to cancel all the engagements on 18 January, 2022 to accommodate Kanu’s trial.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s lead counsel confirm to journalists after the court sitting that the application they filed before the court and which was heard was for abridgment of time for the trial of his client.

However, PM NEWS learnt from some of the journalists present in court that Ejiofor tried to raise the issue of bail and his challenge of jurisdiction of the court and bail for Kanu, but the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako insisted that the issue for the day is about abridgment of time for the trial of his client.

The lawyer added that the abridgment of time means Kanu’s trial will go on from day to day when it recommenced

The lawyer added that he also brought issues of welfare of his client in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS to the attention of the court.

Consequently, he said Justice Nyako ordered the DSS to allow Kanu to change clothes, give him aaximum possible comfort, allow him to practice his faith and give him medical attention.

Kanu is facing a 7 count Charge of alleged terrorism and Treasonable felony.
