Pirates demand N25m for NSCDC operative, 4 others abducted in Bayelsa

Criminal gangs suspected to be sea pirates have demanded N25 million for an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and four civilians they abducted last Wednesday.

The five victims were attached to a kitchen contractor working with the ConOil Plc outstation in Koluama 1, Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa State.

The five abducted persons were on their way to the outstation with supplies for the kitchen contractor when they were abducted.

The abducted NSCDC operative was simply identified as Kalifa, an indigene of Igarra, Edo State.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the sea pirates who carried out the abduction have demanded for a ransom of N25 million before the abductees are released.

Solomon Ogbere, spokesman of the NSCDC in Bayelsa State confirmed the abduction of the personnel along with the four other civilians who were abducted.

“It’s a confirmed story. One of our officers and four civilians were kidnapped last Wednesday while heading to their location where they protect ConOil facilities.”

“They were all on mufti while returning to their base when they were attacked. Investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits.”
