A young serial entrepreneur, Maximum Efuru Fredrick has expressed his interest to contest for the Obudu, Bekwarra, and Obanliku Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 general election.

Fredrick he interest in the seat which he described as OBO Federal Constituency was motivated by his desire to fix Nigeria’s education system

Fredrick, who made his position known in his manifesto, quoted late Nelson Mandela as saying, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

Speaking on failed education system in the country, the 24-year-old tech-savvy said “we just haven’t gotten education right.

”Our education system is in need of complete overhaul, and things has to change in the way tertiary institutions are ran.

”That is why I am running for Federal House of Representatives in Nigeria’s National Assembly, representing Bekwarra, Obudu, Obanliku constituency,” he declared.

Fredrick further narrated his journey and how the unwholesome school environment in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions almost kill his dreams before moving to another institution outside Nigeria.

In his words, “I started my tertiary education as a student of The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE). Although considered one of the top schools in Nigeria, it wasn’t a right environment for me – just as it isn’t the right environment for many students even now.

”At 21, while still a student of the university, I became an entrepreneur. I was passionate about entrepreneurship and decided to pursue that passion outside of the classroom. But FUPRE, just like every other Nigerian university never encourages activities outside of the classroom. They frown at it. As such, I was unable to balance academic work with my entrepreneurial activities.

”Universities shouldn’t expect every student to be normal. Some students have big, audacious goals; and want to go out there to pursue their passions. Our education system should be structured to support such students.

”I left The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun. I enrolled at The African Leadership University (ALU) in Kigali, Rwanda afterwards. I joined ALU because ALU is for The Dreamer, The Leader, The Achiever.

”ALU is a school where the world is your classroom. They never limit you within the walls of a classroom, but encourages students to Do Hard Things even outside of the classroom. That is how I think universities in Nigeria should operate,” he added.

Fredrick promised to reform Nigeria’s education system which is outdated and lack modern standards if elected into the House of Representatives.

“I’ll push for major reforms in Nigeria’s education system. Our education system is out-of-date, and needs to conform with modern standards. As someone who once was a student of a Nigerian university, I know the areas that needs amendment.

”I can’t fix every problem in Nigeria, but I am certain I can accomplish the task of pushing for reforms in our education system,” he concluded.
