House of Reps wade in death of Itunu Babalola

The House of Representatives has said that it would unravel circumstances surrounding the death of Ms. Itunu Babalola, a Nigerian lady who died in Ivory Coast.

Itunu Babalola was wrongfully imprisoned in Ivory Coast before her death which was under strange circumstances.

Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora visited the family of the deceased in their Ibadan residence where she promised all action necessary to unravel the case will be done.

She added that a thorough coroners’ inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding Itunu Babalola’s death would be demanded as the Committee on Diaspora is not satisfied with the result of the autopsy carried out in Cote d’Ivoire.

The legislator also said the Ivorian Ambassador to Nigeria, will have to ensure that the wrongful incarceration that resulted in the death of a Nigerian citizen is investigated urgently.

Hon. Tolulope added that the house of reps is always committed to the safety of Nigerians in the diaspora and will not rest until it gets justice for Itunu Babalola, even in death.

Itunu’s father, Emmanuel Babalola, who shed tears during the legislator’s visit said the family can only have closure through a thorough investigation into the cause of their daughter’s death, adding that through an independent toxicologist, the cause of her death can be established.

He appealed to the Federal Government to wade into the matter urgently noting that his daughter was victimised in prison.
