Lagos logged another record number of daily COVID-19 cases on Friday, as it increasingly fell under the weather of the Fourth Wave of the virus.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos recorded 428 of the 533 cases logged nationally.

This represents 80 percent of the total cases logged Friday.

The state in the past three days has recorded over 200 cases each day, leading Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to re-introduce COVID-19 rules to stem the spread.

Friday’s ballooned figure will further get the governor and his health commissioner, Akin Abayomi worried.

NCDC also gave a breakdown of the COVID-19 cases recorded in nine other states and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

The FCT followed Lagos with 45 cases, Rivers has 33, Edo nine and Ogun eight.

It added that Oyo State recorded three cases while Delta and Kaduna State recorded two cases each, and Gombe, Jigawa and Kano had one case each.

It noted that 207,661 COVID-19 patients had recovered and had been discharged from hospitals.

With no new COVID-19 death, the fatality number in Nigeria stands 2,981.
